Bawadi Peace and Development Organization welcomes the recent remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump calling for an end to the war in Sudan, considering them a positive step that reflects a growing recognition of the grave humanitarian and security situation facing the Sudanese people both inside the country and across the region. The greatest gift that can be offered to Sudanese people in these difficult times is an immediate and comprehensive cessation of hostilities.
Sudanese civilians continue to endure tragic and unprecedented conditions as a result of ongoing military operations, which necessitates urgent regional and international action to contain the escalating humanitarian catastrophe. In this context, we reaffirm the importance of ensuring that any negotiations aimed at ending the war address the root causes of the Sudanese crisis in a manner that prevents its recurrence.
The organization supports all efforts aimed at ending the conflict, and urges the Sudanese Armed Forces to move beyond the intransigence imposed by extremist Islamist groups, and to take a position similar to that of the Rapid Support Forces, who have declared their acceptance of a comprehensive and unconditional ceasefire as a prelude to an inclusive and just political process. We further stress that the spoilers of peace in Sudan are well known to the Sudanese public and to the international community, requiring firm measures against them to ensure they do not obstruct the path to peace.
The organization calls on all international, regional, and national stakeholders to capitalize on the momentum generated by the recent statements and to work seriously toward ensuring their implementation on the ground. We also commend the pivotal role played by the Quad in reaching this stage and urge it to continue its efforts to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable peace in Sudan.
