The Bawadi Peace and Development Organization has been closely and deeply monitoring the events in the city of El Fasher for the past year and a half. The organization had previously warned of the dangers of militarizing civilian life, mobilizing civilians and displaced people, and the escalation of hate speech and incitement of civilians to fight under false pretexts that have no basis in truth. Such practices are rejected and condemned under international laws and human rights conventions, as they directly endanger civilians. The organization considers these actions—given the historically fragile security situation in Darfur—as a revival of the memories of civil war and the violations that accompanied it.
Based on our social responsibility, and in support of the statements made by U.S. Envoy Palls calling for the Rapid Support Forces to intervene to protect civilians, the organization affirms the following:
First: The importance of providing full protection to detainees and unarmed civilians, and ensuring their safety in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Second: Immediate securing of all humanitarian routes and corridors to enable relief organizations to reach affected populations without obstacles or delays.
Third: Calling on the international community and humanitarian organizations to assume their moral and humanitarian responsibilities toward civilians and to expedite the delivery of urgent aid to the people of El Fasher and the affected areas, as there is no justification for delaying humanitarian convoys.
Fourth: Calling for a professional and transparent investigation into the circulated video clips showing the killing of individuals wearing civilian clothing. The organization affirms that such acts are unacceptable and deplorable and contradict national values and legal obligations in armed conflicts.
In conclusion, the Bawadi Organization for Peace and Development calls on all parties to cease hostilities and resort to reason and responsible national dialogue to spare the blood of innocents and preserve what remains of the social fabric that is threatened with fragmentation. The organization also reiterates its belief that comprehensive and just peace is the only path to building a safe and stable homeland where coexistence and human dignity prevail.
