Statement on the Targeting of Civilians in the Villages of Alzurq and Garir _ North Darfur

We strongly condemn the heinous crime committed by a drone belonging to the terrorist Islamic Movement’s army, which targeted civilians in the villages of Alzurq and Garir in North Darfur. The attack included the bombing of the only hospital in Alzurq village, resulting in the killing of its medical staff and dozens of civilians, in addition to the bombing of the market in Garir village constituting a blatant violation of all international laws and norms.

The number of victims has exceeded fifty (50) civilians, alongside large numbers of wounded, most of whom are children, women, and the elderly.

These crimes come as part of a systematic approach adopted by this terrorist gang since the beginning of the war, under the slogan of “exterminating support bases,” through targeting villages and rural communities and destroying the foundations of life.

We hold the international community and human rights organizations fully responsible for their suspicious silence, which can no longer be interpreted except as direct encouragement for the commission of further acts of genocide.

The protection of civilians is an international and legal responsibility that does not tolerate negligence or delay.

We call for immediate international condemnation and the urgent initiation of genocide and war crimes charges against the leaders of the Sudanese army and its extremist Islamic movement, and for holding them accountable without any leniency.
