As part of its efforts to promote health awareness in displacement areas, Bawadi for Peace and Development Organization, in collaboration with the Khazzan Gadeed Feminist Emergency Room, carried out a cholera awareness campaign targeting displaced people in Al-Nakheel Camp, located in the New Khazan administrative unit, East Darfur State.
The campaign included providing information on the symptoms of the disease, its risks, and methods of prevention, in light of its rapid spread in the region. The campaign will last for two days with the aim of reaching the largest number of displaced individuals and expanding the scope of awareness.
The campaign team listened to the complaints and suffering of the displaced, where the water crisis emerged as the greatest threat to their lives. There are no clean water sources available, forcing residents to drink stagnant and contaminated water from seasonal ponds (rahoud), which increases the likelihood of a broader outbreak of diseases.
So far, cholera cases have not recovered, and there are real fears of an increase in the number of cases and the expansion of the outbreak, amid the deteriorating health conditions and the absence of emergency services.
We at Bawadi Organization renew our appeal to the international community, humanitarian organizations, national authorities, and all people of goodwill to urgently intervene to provide safe drinking water and essential health services. The humanitarian situation in the camp is catastrophic and cannot bear any delay.
في إطار جهودها لتعزيز التوعية الصحية في مناطق النزوح، نفذت منظمة بوادي للسلام والتنمية بالتعاون مع غرفة طوارئ خزان جديد النسوية حملة توعية حول مرض الكوليرا، استهدفت النازحين في مخيم النخيل بوحدة خزان جديد الإدارية، ولاية شرق دارفور.
شملت الحملة تقديم معلومات عن أعراض المرض، مخاطره، وسبل الوقاية منه، في ظل تفشيه المتسارع بالمنطقة. وستستمر الحملة لمدة يومين بهدف الوصول إلى أكبر عدد من النازحين وتوسيع نطاق التوعية.
وقد استمع فريق الحملة إلى شكاوى ومعاناة النازحين، حيث برزت أزمة المياه كأكبر تهديد لحياتهم، إذ لا تتوفر أي مصادر نظيفة، ويضطر السكان إلى شرب المياه الراكدة والملوثة من الرهود، مما يزيد من احتمالات تفشي الأمراض بشكل أوسع.
حتى اللحظة، لم تتماثل حالات الإصابة بالكوليرا للشفاء بعد، وهناك مخاوف حقيقية من زيادة عدد الحالات واتساع نطاق الانتشار، في ظل البيئة الصحية المتدهورة وانعدام خدمات الطوارئ.
